In 1999, after attending a "SISTER'S" convention in Cleveland, Ohio as guest speaker and consulting with several accomplished writers who were also in attendance, she sat about realizing a dream to write children's fiction. Publishing was not part of the dream, but became necessary to avoid lengthy travel and schedule variances that would have interfered with the original reason (golf) to retire and re-locate from Oakwood Village, Ohio to the beautiful city of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Newspaper experience at The Plain Dealer, Ohio's largest newspaper, and subsequent entrepreneurial challenges including real estate investing, and a retail business enhanced the formation and launching of Schooner Publications, Inc.
Why children's books? Ms. Shaw had a painful childhood experience in the fourth grade that influenced her entire life. Because of that experience, she writes stories using roses of brown hues to depict racism and tolerance. Her sincere hope is that positive communication will result in better relations for all concerned.
Mr. Browne's Roses is the first book of The Brown Rose Series.
Mr. Browne and the Rose Show is the second.
There will be two more before conclusion.
